laptop sigmatel c major audio headphone jack does not w

Just installed windows vista build 5384 and the (SigmaTel C-Major Audio) laptop speakers do work fine but when i plug in speakers or headphones there is not sound at all.?? Can anyone help......

I have the same notebook as you. I have yet to install Vista Beta 2 but am aware of the sound problem. I will repost with my sound card experience and let you know how everything goes.

Download the xp drivers from dell, extract the files, and run setup.exe in XP SP2 compatibility mode. It works fine.

No - if you click on the setup.exe file and click properties, you will see a tab called compatibility. Choose xp sp2 compatibility mode from there and then run the file.

I just checked with a friend at SigmaTel. They no longer own the codec or the drivers. They have been sold to IDT, who has announced that they are supporting PC OEMs now, and will release the drivers generally "in advance of the Vista release."

I HAVE SIGMATEL MAJOR DRIVERS THAT WORK ON VISTA AND THE AUDIO JACK WORKS, IT WORKS ON MY INSPIRON 6000 PERFECTCLY, IT MIGHT WORK ON OTHERS!
